Hips Looking Imminent For August Despite Opposition

Date Published 23 July 2007

The opposition motion in the House of Lords to abolish HIPs was passed this week.

Commenting on this vote, Shadow Housing Minister Grant Shapps stated:

'This is another embarrassing development for the Government as the fiasco over HIPs goes from bad to worse. There is still time for the Prime Minister to reconsider and we urge him to back away from pushing through this hugely unpopular and costly piece of bureaucracy. If Gordon Brown is serious about listening to Parliament then he will have to go away and seriously consider today's vote.'
