A QR code is a specific matrix barcode that is readable by dedicated readers and camera Smartphones (Blackberry, Android, HTC, iPhone etc) that is already proving an invaluable marketing tool for the housing market. Created by Toyota subsidiary Denso-Wave in 1994, the code itself consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background which when photographed downloads relevant data instantly to the device such as contact details, URL’s and texts.
Today, QR codes are the fastest growing type of barcodes in the UK, as a result of the rapid growth of iPhones and similar mobile devices. As a 2010 strategic report confirms, Smartphone sales have risen rapidly since 2009 and are expected to reach 1 billion users by 2013.
