The picturesque village of Ewelme is set in the Chilterns area of outstanding natural beauty, four miles east of the market town of Wallingford and fifteen miles from Oxford. The village is well known for its 15th Century cloistered alms houses and watercress beds which provided significant local employment into the 20th Century. Geoffrey Chaucer is also buried in St Mary's Church. Ewelme primary school was established in 1437 by the Duchess of Suffolk and is said to be the oldest school building in the United Kingdon still in use. Other primary schools nearby include The Oratory, Cranford House, Rupert House, Chandlings Manor and Moulsford Preparatory and Senior Schools such as Pangbourne College, Bradfield College, Radley, The Oratory and all the Oxford schools are within reach and teh excellent Wallingford Academy School.. There is a mainline rail service from Reading (seventeen miles) and Didcot (ten miles) to London Paddington which takes thirty and forty five minutes respectively. Princes Risborough or Haddenham and Thame Parkway stations are approximately fourteen miles with a service to London Marylebone twice an hour taking fifty minutes. The M40 (J6) is seven miles away with the Oxford Tube coach connection to Central London, and access to Heathrow Airport.
